6 Sleeps

Well, our holiday is fast approaching and we are busily organizing and planning. Months of planning and here we are... 6 sleeps.

The plan is to leave for Vancouver on April 3 and fly to Bali April 5 (through Taipei). We will be greeted at the airport by Wayan and driven to our first destination; An area called Jimbaran. There we will enjoy the beaches, local markets and the Indonesian family that takes care of the home we are renting. Jimbaran lies on the 'neck' of the southern peninsula in Bali and is widely known for the fresh seafood and markets scattered along the beach.

Next, we travel inward to Ubud. Ubud is a town in the middle of the island of Bali. We are told it has been the island's preeminent centre for fine arts, dance and music. While it once was a haven for scruffy backpackers, cosmic seekers, artists and bohemians, Ubud is now a hot spot for literati, art collectors and connoisseurs. Elegant five star hotels and sprawling mansions now stand on its outskirts, overlooking the most prized views in Bali. It seems to draw people who are actively involved in art, nature, music, dance, architecture, environmentalism, and those who just want to enjoy it, like us.

Our next stop will be Sanur. A quiet beach village with lots to offer us and the kids.

This is the plan. A plan we have prayed over and excitedly embark upon.

Here we go....

And so it begins...

For our entire marriage we have dreamed of Bali. At first simply as a mythic location, hazy and distant. It symbolized for us not success or arrival, but rather the idealism of hope for a bright future.

To now have the opportunity before us to actually go seems equally surreal. Yet, here we go. We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to engage in this adventure, and I the weary husband, very grateful for my thrifty travel-ista wife that managed to accomplish family-safe travel planning on a dime.

We're glad to have you join us on this adventure as well. We hope to post every few days, and promise to include pictures and videos.

Pray for us as we embark across the planet, and not just for safety and sanity. But that we would engage with this beautiful place, its people and lifestyle. We are so excited to see what's ahead.
